Basdeo Panday was born on May 25 1933. He was a founding member of the United National Congress (UNC) in 1988. Under the UNC banner he lead the party to victory in the general elections in 1995 and became the fifth prime minister of Trinidad and Tobago. Basdeo Panday is known for his charm and charisma as a political leader as well as a trade union activist.
