Question

How accurate are over the counter cholesterol tests?

I just did a cholesterol test and the results were that my cholesterol levels were "Low".
How accurate is the reading on a cholesterol checking machine that gauges your cholesterol level from a finger prick?

Over the counter cholesterol tests are said to be 95% accurate once the test used measures both high-density lipoprotein (HDL), the "good" cholesterol that protects your heart; low-density lipoprotein (LDL), the "bad" cholesterol which contributes to plaque buildup in the arteries; and triglycerides.

But it is always recommended that a doctor is consulted due to other factors that need to be considered, like, age, lifestyle and family history.
